Ireland’s Gordon D’Arcy wins Beard of Six Nations poll

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Ireland’s Gordon D’Arcy has won the on-line vote for the Beard of the Six Nations. He easily beat France’s Martin Castrogiovanni and Wales’s Jake Ball in the poll.

The 2013 winner Wales’s Leigh Halfpenny did not poll as well this year

The 2014 Six Nations was literally bristling with competitors for the coveted title.

The campaigners say that the current Six Nations was probably the most hirsute ever, with all of the six teams having serious hirsute representation

The impact of beards on the field has meant that even noted pogonophobes such as Clive Woodward who argued in 2013 on the BBC that he wouldn’t select players with beards, have remained silent this year.
